Paying for Catastrophic Care Through Alternative Payment Models
Sedera’s Founder and CEO, Dr. Tony Dale, recently had the opportunity to share his deep insight on alternative payment models to pay for catastrophic health care in an interview with Darrell Moon, founder of Aspirational Healthcare and CEO of Orriant.
They were joined by Sedera Regional Sales Executive Juliet Dill who shared her true-life experience with medical cost sharing and how her family was able to access high-quality, affordable healthcare while being supported by the Sedera Medical Cost Sharing Community and Needs Coordinators. Her story was told from the heart and the cost-savings she experienced prevented catastrophic healthcare expenses.

According to Dr. Tony Dale, “We need to stop thinking in terms of saving 2% on healthcare costs, or even 20%. We need to think about a healthcare system that can eliminate the approximate 50% of waste in the current system and bring the costs down per person.”
How Can Employers Save on Healthcare Costs?
It’s not just individuals and families that need relief from high premiums, high deductibles, and unaffordable healthcare. Business leaders, faced with an economic slowdown and increased costs, are reassessing how they’re going to afford healthcare options for their teams — a cost that is often their second-largest line-item expense.
CEOs know that healthcare is important not only for employee health but also as a critical component to attracting and retaining talent, thus reducing lost productivity and the high costs of employee turnover. CEOs can also be powerful catalysts for change and many employers are saving up to 60% on their healthcare expenses by offering their teams an innovative alternative to paying for medical costs.
Alternatives to paying for medical costs include medical cost sharing, Direct Primary Care options, and cost savings for paying providers in cash. Cash pay patients benefit from healthcare price transparency which allows them to know the costs of care before treatment and enables them to be smart healthcare shoppers.
These alternatives empower people by allowing them to choose their own medical providers, be free from network restrictions, keep more money in their budgets, and avoid financial hardship from large, unexpected, and potentially catastrophic medical expenses.
